It takes a village. Ours just happens to be on the Costa del Sol.

Kids Happen was started by expat parents, for families building a life a long way from where they grew up.

We just had to build ours here.

Moving abroad gives you a great deal. Sunshine in February. A different pace. Children who grow up with more than one language.

It also takes something away.

Grandparents are no longer fifteen minutes down the road. Your sister can’t pop over for a couple of hours. The babysitter you trusted for years is in another country.

So you start again. A neighbour who becomes a friend. Another family from school. Someone who has lived here longer and knows who to call. Slowly, the people around you become the people you rely on.

A good nanny belongs in that circle. Not as a stranger who turns up for three hours, but as someone your children are pleased to see and you are relieved to know.

That is why Kids Happen exists. We needed this ourselves, we couldn’t find it, and we knew plenty of other families who felt the same. So we built it, with people we know and trust.

We are raising our own children here too. We know what it’s like.

Our people

Meet Jenna.

Jenna is Finnish living on the Costa del Sol with her school-aged child.

She has spent much of her working life with children, in early childhood education and in a private daycare setting. She knows what good care looks like from the inside, and she knows many of the families and childcare professionals in the area personally.

She also knows the other side. When your own family lives in another country, finding someone you trust with your child stops being a nice-to-have. It becomes the thing that decides whether you can say yes to work, to dinner, to anything.

Kids Happen is her answer to that, as a parent and as a childcare professional.
